THE CLICKBANK GUIDE
Issue 74: Oct 25, 2006
Harvey Segal, Editor
After a gap of four months between issues 71 and 72 it seems
strange to send out this issue just 2 days after the last,
but I only publish when I have something of value to tell
you.
And if you are one of the 100,000 ClickBank affiliates I
advise you to read on ...
I've just found a way to turn a SuperTip into a Super SuperTip.
You may be wondering how to get the edge over your RIVAL
affiliates.
Your potential customer may have visited several sites, all
promoting the same affiliate programs as yours, before
deciding to purchase.
So what can you do to do to convince him to return to your
site and buy ?
Well in my free book 101 SuperTips
http://www.supertips.com/101/
I originally offered this advice
== You announce a special offer, stating that you will
== provide a bonus (give details) if they buy from you. Tell
== them to send details of the receipt after purchase.
Now although I don't think that tip can be bettered there IS
a problem.
The problem is that this is where the ideal of running an
online business on autopilot breaks down.
You now have to get involved with handling correspondence
with your customer, checking if his receipt is valid and
emailing with instructions for obtaining your bonus.
No longer can you leave your business on autopilot otherwise
you'll have angry customers demanding their bonus.
If only there was a software tool to handle this all for
you.
Well now there is.
It's called Affiliate Bonus Manager and what it does is to
let you verify customer orders and deliver add-on bonuses
AUTOMATICALLY.
You can simply say
"After you receive your ClickBank receipt, go to
(getmybonus.html), enter your receipt number, and get your
bonus immediately."
Can it get any easier ?
I'd keep this link away from your rivals if I were you.

Harvey I agree that giving away a free bonus if someone buys though your CB affiliate link is a great idea. However it is against CB terms “You agree to make no such promotions promising customers rebates, coupons, tickets, or vouchers in connection with their ClickBank purchase.”
I emailed CB a while back and I was told that offering a free bonus like a ebook, report, etc...in connection with a purchase - can be considered a “voucher”
In which case is against the affiliate contract.
Has anyone been told different by clickbank? |

I've discussed this issue with another marketer who
raises a valid point :
"I believe that what ClickBank is primarily trying to avoid
in stating that policy is affiliates sharing part of their
commission with the customer. That would ordinarily be
called a rebate, and it would ordinarily be actual cash
money paid back to the customer. By adding "coupons,
tickets, or vouchers" they are intending to cover cash
substitutes, in other words potential ways of disguising
cash payments under another form"
Maybe their policy could be better expressed as
"cash rebates or cash equivalents, such as coupons, tickets,
or vouchers."
so it would read
"You agree to make no such promotions promising customers
cash rebates or cash equivalents, such as coupons, tickets,
or vouchers, in connection with their ClickBank purchase."
I'd be interested in readers' comments on this suggestion
and then we can ask ClickBank to review it.

Clickbnak has no problem with a "Bonus" eBook or something along those lines. It is a great affiliate practice to give a bonus that is relevant to the product that you are promoting, otherwise what good is the bonus.
Cash rebates will get you banned real quick though! _________________ Mike

Hi guys,
I don't have many post under my name, but I do pop in often to see what's going on.
Harvey, I have a question for you:
What is the Clickbank policy if the vendor offers the discounted price to the customer on behalf of the affiliate?
i.e. to encourage the promotion of the product the vendor allows affiliates to promote a link to customers that will enable the customer to get a 10% discount on the sales price of the product through the affiliate link?
Curious to know,

Chris,
ClickBank does not have a policy on this, but I see no problem
in a vendor effectively selling a product at different prices.

I could be wrong on this, but I have heard there are laws in the US prohibiting the same product being sold at variable prices at the same time.
Haven't been able to verify this independently, but the point came from a VERY respected and experienced marketing specialist (both online and off)
All success

Hi Dr Mani, very interesting. It's the first time I have heard of this.
Technically the product isn't being sold at a different price because the buyer is getting a 10% discount.
I would like to see how this law could be enforced.
In the US take gasoline for example: Every gas station is selling the same product at a different price. Also how about customer loyalty programs where upper tier customers get the product at a preferred price.
If this is law then it is a sad day for capitlism _________________ I use this personally customized news ticker software to stay ahead of my game... and best of all it's free! |

I have noticed that this has now been withdrawn from sale pending a response from Clickbank.
It should be noted that this strategy was a key to one very high selling ebook in the last 6 or 7 weeks.
If this strategy is against the Clickbank rules, they should have noted about it before.
Can you imagine the refund claims if they decide offering a bonus is against the rules? _________________ Andy Beard |

Bonuses are against clickbank's rules.
Clickbank know about affiliates setting up rebates and bonuses but I doubt they care. Enforcing such rules on affiliates is time wasting and it will reduce their earnings. _________________

I would suggest if Harvey isn't in a position to quote a definitive answer, it is unwise to conclusively state that something is breaking the rules.

It is however prudent to suggest caution until such time as there is a definitive answer.

Official
Affiliates may offer bonuses that are not cash or cash equivalents if
they adhere to the following:
1) Affiliate must state clearly and prominently that the bonus offer is
not the responsibility of ClickBank or of the seller of the primary
product.
2) Affiliate must state clearly and prominently that ClickBank will not
honor any refund requests that are based on non- delivery, quality, or
functionality of the bonus materials.
3) Affiliate must provide their own direct contact information (email
address, etc.) and state clearly that any issues regarding bonus
delivery, bonus functionality, or bonus quality must be addressed with
the affiliate, not with ClickBank or the seller.
ClickBank Note:
It is not posted on the website yet, but our security team will be
using this policy from here on out unless we experience any additional
problems from affiliate bonuses.

hmmm. I wonder if placing the sentences on my presale page needed by clickbank regarding the bonus will confuse the buyer. _________________

Harvey, many thanks
Edwin, you will have to think of ways to do this effectively, but now Clickbank have given an official way to do this, I don't think anyone would be advised to think it doesn't apply to them.
I would avoid giving all the terms in an email, as email it is hard to place emphasis on different things.
It is fairly easy to handle it on a webpage, and giving terms to a bonus is fairly normal anyway. Clarity in this kind of thing doesn't have to be a negative thing. _________________ Andy Beard |
