Hi -- I just happened to come across the following site when I was doing a google search for a particular topic and the word ebook.

I got curious how the site was made, so I looked at the source and there was reference to SQL, at which point I was over my head.

    I kinda liked the site.

    Here's the url: http://fingerclickingood.com

They more or less tell you, at least by implication

They have some sort of database on their web server ("SQL") of lots of ebook related sites

This database gets filled up by another program which retrieves data from various other sites ("spyder" although I always spelt it "spider")

And then when you search, they presumably find the matching records in the database, and generate a web page containng those

Each of these probably requires at least 1 script/program on their server. And they all have to work together (it's no creating a database which the results page generating script can't read for example).

Whether they wrote their own scripts, or bought somebody else's, you'd probably have to ask them.

Thanks! I was tempted to create my own version of that, but think I will stick with what I know. As a former librarian, I *do* love good lists!

You can probably find scripts that are close to what you might need for this sort of site at www.hotscripts.com cgi.resourceindex.com php.resourceindex.com etc.

If you are prepared to give up the spidering part (and manually maintain your own list of links) you might find the project is less demanding in terms of hosting requirements or scripts, maybe
