|I just found out the other day that websites hosted with a certain very popular hosting company do not work with people using DirecWay ISP DiirecWay is affiliated with Direct TV and from what I understand by talking to a couple of customers they are a satelite boardband solution. Popular with people who live in areas that don't have broadband or dsl options.
I emailed the hosting company and they confirmed that there is a problem. According to them there are a lot of services that will not work with DirecWay however I have not found this to be the case. Every other hosting company that my customers have tried (and she tried several) do work so it appears to be this particular hosting company that has the problem.
Sorry, I won't reveal the name of the hosting company in a public forum. However, there is one simple test you can run that will tell you that there MIGHT be a problem -- you can then email your hosting company and ask.
Here is the test:
Bring up a dos command window and type in:
This should return a series of replies with an IP address. Take this ip address and type it into your browser address bar like this:
http://126.96.36.199 (replacing your your ip address, of course)
If the site comes up as expected you should be fine.
If your site does not come up there could be a problem.
Note: I said there COULD be a problem. This is not a 100% accurate test so you should email your webhost to find out for sure.
