My sales page and copy is about as good as I can get (I think) - criticism always welcome......

So, what do 'professional Affiliates' look for?

From what I have read in this forum so far, it seems that most affiliates are using PPC is this right? and maybe not selling directly from a website.

Under my category, my publications have been picked up by most website owners dealing with the subject around the world, I'm quite happy and they also appear to be the same.

BUT - what is it potential affiliates actually look for ? - Is it the product itself ?

OR - is it the sale price they look for or commission rate?

so, what figure does a professional affiliate work with,

I suppose I am asking what amount in dollars do they need to earn per sale generated to make it a worthwhile proposition? on both sides...
-
Cheers
Mal

Hi, when choosing a product to promote, I personally make the decision based on if I would be tempted to buy it myself.
The three main Clickbank products I promote are competitors of mine - but because their sales copy sold the product to me, I believe it can also sell to others.
I am not too bothered about how much I make per sale, as long as it is at least 40% more than it costs me to advertise per sale.
However, I am hardly a 'Superaffiliate' I make approximately 120 affiliate sales per month.

Hi barretina,

Thanks for your reply and input.

That sounds like you would only sell products that appeal to you. Do you think as an affiliate, one should be looking at 'any good' product as long as it's marketable?

I'm not being critical, I'm genuinely trying to get an overall picture of how 'affiliates' work.

I've never really been an affiliate, I promote a few products too but it's my own products I am interested in selling.

My sales have always been good, always in the #1 position in my category at CB marketplace and I have no complaints but I know the sales could be infinitely better than they are.

This is why I am trying to look inside the minds of experienced affiliates.

I gave diligent thought today about my own website/sales page. I had a good critical look myself. I did find when reading it all over again that there were quite a few areas at fault, which I have corrected and also adjusted my commission rate from 35% to 51% in the hope this will improve the appeal to affiliates.

Do you think this commission increase would attract more interest? - I'm not trying to sell the product to affiliates, I want them to be doing that for me and for themselves of course.

Cheers a lot
Mal

I agree any marketable product is definately interesting to sell, but it just does not seem to work like that for me!
The reason I probably do chose products that appeal to me is because they tend to be the ones that also sell for me, maybe because they are subjects I know about?

The products I chose tend to be in the Health/Fitness categories, because I have a content site about fad diets, so obviously it makes sense to advertise diet plans there as opposed to Internet Marketing Software for example.

I have also attempted some PPC (mainly adwords) campaigns for other products I know little about, but chose them because they were high up in their categories, but have not had success with such campaigns and have to drop them, although I have reasonable success with my own diet plan and others using the exact same methods of advertising.

Perhaps because it is a subject I know about, my ad wording reaches the minds of like minded people?
Interesting.

One thing I found confusing with your site was the statement "This site is exclusively for a purchase through 'Clickbank' & 'CB Affiliates'" on your
homepage. I did not know what it meant, and maybe your average surfer who may not be aware of Clickbank, might think it meant the site was not intended for him? Just a thought.

For sure any commision increase will help, the majority of affiliates probably make this a priority, but as long as a product makes me a profit
I am happy Smile

Thanks barretina, I appreciate you taking the time to reply and state your thoughts.

Just to answer your last comment .........

late last year, I joined - 'shareit' - as an ADDITION to clickbank. I did have various links heading off to that site. (which I believe was a mistake to do) - however I did this with the hope that the affiliates that I already have at CB would also join in with my program at 'shareit'.

This 'shareit' is a totally different site and domain name etc. and has the advantage of being able to sell my products as Printed Editions and being able to accept payment not only by Credit Card but check/fax/cash and others also a big PLUS is I can be paid in different currency i.e Euro Dollar - British Pounds etc....not just is US Dollars. Wire Transfers back to me are also no problem and cheap too.

The headline was there to assure any affiliates that, THIS site is strictly for clickbank and NO commissions would be lost.

having said that, I agree with you.....many visitors wouldn't have any idea what it's there for....in light of that, I might remove it., thanks...

Yes, I see what you mean. That is actually something I DO look for when promoting a clickbank product, that the vendor only uses clickbank for the transaction.
However, again, that is just me, other affiliates are probably not as lazy, and would join another program, if it were also offered on the site.
I suppose a way round that would be too have a slightly modified site for the clickbank marketplace that only offers the downloadable version, and send your own traffic to your original site.

Another thing I thought was slightly confusing was the diference in the products, there is a simplified and standard edition, one assumes the standard is better because it is more expensive, but there is no explanation as to why it is better...might be more appealing to call the simplified edition the standard edition, and the standard edition the 'advanced' edition? Is a bit more self explanatory.

Also I did not like the testimonial that says "Thanks ever so much for a great reply. I now understand it all - it was the straight place bet that was confusing me, but now, as you have elaborated further - it all makes perfect sense now. Like you said, betting a horse to place will give higher strike rates than betting one to win so this is what I prefer to do" as it implies the system maybe complicated.

These small things may put me off slightly when I am checking out affiliate programs.

Other than that (and the odd typo Smile) I think it its fine, don't know much about horse racing, but I am interested in lottery systems.

I live in Spain, and we don't have bookies over here, although I know one can bet online, but for some reason, online bookies. or at least uk based ones, are not keen on accepting Spanish credit cards without doing extreme checks, which puts me off. If it were easier to bet here, I would buy the book, and if I had a content related site would be happy to promote it...however I don't, would be interesting to hear what other affiliates think.

Thanks barretina - I'll check the spelling and change the book titles. What you have mentioned make a lot of sense.

I've also now added a mile of new content to that particular site, a slightly different approach.

Send me an email (it's in my profile) - I'll send you a free copy of my Lotto product, you've been more than helpful and I do appreciate it.
