    Hi everyone,

would you know of a way on how I can totally cloak affiliate IDs / Hoplinks from Microsoft Word (what I use to create Ebooks)? Totally meaning even cloaking it in mouse overs...

    Is there a way?

    Thanks for the help!

From what I can see the two main reasons people don't want an affiliate link to be displayed is because

    1) it's often long and ugly
    2) they're worried about competition stealing, hijacking or identifying the code/affiliate to the products source.

Here are 2 solutions I can think of:

    A) Use a URL shortening service such as TinyURL or Bit.ly

Advantages: very easy to set up and use, looks acceptable, some services allow tracking
Disadvantages: looks acceptable but not professional, often links can't be changed at a later date (which is important if the product url changes),

    B) Use you own php redirects

    How this works:

Say you're selling a dog training book and inside you want to put in an affiliate link to buy some dog food. Instead what you can do is have a link which looks something like:

    Code:
    www.yoursite.com/best-dog-food/

and when the customer clicks on the link they will first visit your site. After visiting your site they will get redirected to the affiliate link which will then take them to the dog food store.

Advantages: looks more professional, easy to update, allows tracking
Disadvantages: requires quite a bit of expertise to set up

So basically, if you've got the time and knowledge then use php redirects otherwise a url shortening service as a temporary measure.

Hi Rapid, thanks for the advise...

    1) In the image above, the link on the PDF goes directly to the vendor's website with the cloaked affiliate link :

    Code:
    www.nomoneysystem.com
    -> how's this done?

    and

    2) The link on the PDF file shows the affiliate ID when doing a mouse over. is there a way to cloak this also?

    Thanks!

However, this approach is not very high conversion rate, small problems can not be ignored

Firstly, you will need to create a cloaked affiliate link.

You can find out how to do so from these threads:
    http://www.clickbanksuccessforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6162
    http://www.clickbanksuccessforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6193

Alternatively , you can use a program to do so like the one I am using:
    http://www.affiliateshield.com/

Next you will need to place this link into your PDF ebook.

From your previous post, you said that you are using Word to create your ebooks. so here's how to do so with Word.

    1) Highlight the text in your document that you want to become a link, eg. XXXX.com.

    2) Look for the function 'Insert' in Word. You will see an icon called 'Hyperlink' within.

    3) Click on that icon and a window will open that will allow you to set the URL (your cloaked link) that will make the text you highlighted earlier into a link.

    That's it. Smile

    Cheers
    Damian

I'm new at this cloaking thing but couldn't you just do a simple redirect?

    His affiliate link being
    Code:
    http://xxx.hop.clickbank.net

    his domain being
    Code:
    http://www.xxxxx.com

could he set up in his c-panel a redirect to that. he could make a link
    Code:
    http://www.xxxxx.com/affiliatelink/

would this serve the purpose. I'm asking because this is what I've been doing and if it's not effective I want to do it correctly.

    Hello Donna111,

I myself wouldn,t insert your hop or affiliate link into the ebook, But instead
creat a redirect at your domain and put that link in your ebook. Then there's no worries.
