Does anybody have a tested way of determining how much traffic could a keyword bring if you ranked on page 1 of Google for it (as related to position of course)...?

I've heard you can get an estimate by using google's "keyword tool external". Most times I've seen it suggested that you start there to find out how many searches are being done on keywords to make sure there are enough searches being done on your keywords to decide if you want to rank for them, or some others with higher numbers.

As I recall, if you have an adwords or adsense account and log into it to use the keyword tool, it gives you much more data - but there's alot of info given even if you don't log in to use it.

Maybe this will give you some info to get started with, I'm sure there's people here who have more ideas.

Well up to some extent thus test can be determined.
Based on search volume you can have and idea of how much traffic site is getting if on first page.

I was always confused with people posting comments just for the sake of posting...

Anyway, I was looking for an analysis similar to this:

    Eoon,

you just need to do your keyword research properly to begin with.

It totally depends on your niche and keywords to how much traffic you get from being on page 1 of Big G.

there are lots and lots of free tools available that will tell you the search volume from google locally and globally per month / day. So from that y ou can work it out

It does not "totally depend" on the niche. I have recently read a hugely useful study about human eyes movement when search results show up on the page (I believe it's mentioned in the link I provided, too). That's the kind of things it totally depends on. Those variables are the same in those searching for "LCD TV" and those searching for "tennis elbow".

And the result is a very predictable statistics about how many clicks will you get from being in the top 10.

And I am not sure I understand the part about the numbers depending on the keywords. If you wanted to say that it depends on the search volume, well that's just wasted typing right there. Of course you'll get more clicks from a word that has half of a million in volume than from a word that has 10.000 searches.

I was talking about percentages of the search volume that you can turn into clicks if you get to that first page. For example, if I get to first page for a word that has daily volume of 1000, can I expect 10 or 100 of those people on my site?

I know now that I can expect at least 30.

The link I provided above explains exactly what I wanted to know. And very precisely and diligently, too.

Google trends might be helpful for this.

That depends, not all keywords are created equal in terms of number of visitors. It would be best if you utilize Google's Keyword Tool and Google Insight for you to have an idea on how much traffic or visits a particular keyword can generate.

It depends on the keyword which you have targeted for your webpage.

A keyword with 20000 search volume per month can bring 100 to 200 visitors per day to your page.

well, i think no matter what is your keywords, what is your niche, if you can stand on top one position, you can get at least 40%-50% more traffic than other position.

That's right. I agree with you. But it's a big job to rank your website at
    the first page on google.

No one can find out this... However, However someone has posted that Google Keyword Tools helps you to find out that level of traffic. Infact, it is not like that. The face is, Google Keyword Tools provides approximate number of searches of that particular keyword.

However, there is a tool Traffic Estimator but it is used only when you are going to launch ads through Google Adwords. And, how can you get traffic information if you are not launching Adword setup.

A search engine optimization method that really works is to analyze the web pages that currently have a high ranking for your important keyword. Since these pages have a top 10 ranking, the pages must have all the best settings.
