Is there anyway to structure a link so that when a sale is made, I can tell where the click came from or at least from what banner/text link?

I am an affiliate that markets both PPC and on my web site. I would like to be able to see what click actually made the sale.

I have searched high and low and have not been able to find any information about this - but it looks like in the reports there might be a way.

    Thanks!

    Burke,

You would need to get at the thank you page of the
product which you can't do if you are an affiliate,
except in certain circumstances explained here

    Thanks Harvey!

The reason I ask is that when I view my reports there is a "link" column. What does this do?

    Burke,

That link column has nothing to do with tracking.

In fact that question was asked before, see

On my marketingrocket.com site. I can do it for **my own** traffic, and for **my** ClickBank affiliates who know a special code that goes thru the script on my site for products we sell.

This works only for products on marketingrocket.com. It doesn't work for any of our other sales site, or any obviously for products sold by other clickbank merchants.

The trick is to use a series of cookies and a database (no I'm not planning on giving out the script). Basically you need something (script code) both at the time of the initial click and at the thankyou page to recognize the earlier cookie..

For example, I know the number of clicks from each source, and the number of sales. There may be an occassional slight discrepency in terms of how my system tracks affiliate sales, to how ClickBank's official figures are generated (and I don't propose to do anything about that), because my cookie rules may be slightly different from ClickBank's

This possible discrepency is why I haven't made the report viewable by any affiliate (even for their own affiliate links), as I figure it would merely generate arguments *if* any discrepencies did show up - at the end-of-day, ClickBank's tracking is the right and official one.

I don't have a good answer to my last paragraph. If anybody has one, I may make the data and/or script available.

I don't know if this is something that would help you or not, but if you
are advertising via PPC and would like to know which keywords are
producing the sales, there is one possibility. Adwords and Findwhat
offer tracking code, and I think Overture does also. I have a product
that I do very well with, and I got the merchant to set up a separate
thank you page for me and insert this tracking code into the thank you
page, so I can tell which keywords the sales are coming from. Not all
merchants will be willing to do this, but if you are generating a lot of
sales for a merchant, they would probably be willing to do this. If you
have your own product, you could set this up for yourself also.
This might not be what your looking for, but thought I would suggest it
    here anyway.

The limitation with that approach is that if the merchant has to install
the special tracking code for each of his/her super affiliate.

And, as Wayne mentioned, unless one is bringing in a lot of sales
for the merchant, chances are, they won't take the trouble to install
    tracking codes for individual affiliates.

The solution that Harvey mentioned above solves this. With just one
simple install of ONE tracking code, ANY affiliates who are using
Ad Minder's tracking service will be able to track their sales from
the merchants that have installed the tracking codes.

No need to install individual tracking codes for every affiliate.
    A neat solution Smile

    Warm regards,
    Adrian

That is a good idea from the merchant side, and I wish Clickbank would
offer some kind of tracking so the merchant's wouldn't have to do it
themselves. But for people like myself that only do affiliate sales, there
are very few merchants that do this, and I need to go to each merchant
individually if I want to be able to track my sales. The best and most
profitable feature Clickbank could include in their program is tracking
of sales for affiliates. If all affiliates could track their sales and know
which keywords are working for them, they could put their advertising
money where it is paying off, and I believe everyone would see an
    increase in sales.

    Burke,

I have two further solutions for you.

(These would be impractical for tracking sales from
many sources but OK in your case as you only appear to
want tracking figures for just two different sources -
    website and PPC)

    1. Use a different ClickBank account for each source.

    2. For each source you could have different presell
pages for the product and offer a bonus gift
if customers order from your affiliate link: get them to
    mail you after the purchase.

By the way this is one of two ways to gain a competitive
edge over rival affiliates promoting the same product:
for the other see Tip 10 in my free ebook "101 SuperTips".
