    Hello,

Anyone know why http://www.platinum-detective.com has been down over a week?

It used to be Surefire-Detective and then all at once it just disappeared
on the 3rd of November, now it goes to platinum-detective.com and
says the website will be back up shortly. I think he must be completely
redoing his product and doesn't have it finished yet. Surefire-Detective
paid a good commission but the refund rates were on the high side.

    "Something better is coming soon.

    Keep your eyes open!"

Are you referring to this site being improved or a different one?

Something New and different.... Before Christmas!

The rumor is that Sure-Fire infringed on Web Detective and they allegedly sued Sure Fire out of business.

What happened is an affiliate of Surefire Detective suggested some
sales copy to the owner of Surefire Detective to use which would boost
his conversion rate, and he decided to use this sales copy. The only
problem was a lot of it was word for word from the Web Detective site
and he didn't realize this. I have seen some sites come and go that
had copied the contents of the membership site of Web Detective and
had started their own site, but I don't believe that Surefire Detective
did this, but they did make the mistake of copying some of their sales
    page.

Well stealing someones sales letter is clearly infringement, so if that is what happened they get what they deserved. As far as the contents inside Web-Detective, let's remember that it is basically a list of URLs. Borrowing the list is not infringement, Congress has said that a list cannot be copyrighted or protected. However if what they did was borrow their list of URLs AND borrow their description of the links, then that is a no-no.

You can have a link description that is described as "Ebay" and points to www.ebay.com. That is not protected work or art.

However if you have a link description that says "Our choice for best auction site" or "Largest Auction Site in the World" and it points to www.ebay.com and you steal that and a large majority of all the descriptions, then you are going to get yourself sued.

There has to be some creative work behind it for it to be protected.

BTW I am told the internal contents of Web Detective is going to be upgraded, which is a good thing because there is no internal organization that I can see, in my humble opinion.

    Stay tuned.
