I was just reading an article from Tim Coulter, and since he is a
moderator on this forum, I thought I would ask this here. The article
    in question is here:
    http://www.howtoman.org/a/ClickBank_Affiliate_Woes_When_Tracking_Breaks_Down/A5209

The paragraph I have a question about is this:
    ***
Fortunately, following a series of recent change to the ClickBank hoplink system, a referral will now only take place if the client computer accepts the ClickBank tracking cookie. This is great comfort to ClickBank affiliates, who can no longer be deprived of their commission because of cookie rejection. Merchants, in contrast, may not be so happy that willing prospects are being turned away because of an errant configuration in their computer.
    ***

Maybe I am misunderstanding this, but I have never heard of this before.
Does this mean that if the visitor has their computer set to not accept
cookies, that they will not be redirected to the merchant's site after
    clicking on a hoplink?

    Hi Wayne,

Yes, at the time I wrote this article, the ClickBank hoplink system was configured to redirect prospects to an error page in the event that the cookie was rejected. It explained (in ClickBank's usual delicate language Smile ) that the referral can not take place because cookies are disabled.

However, as you know, nothing remains constant for long at ClickBank, so I am not sure that this configuration is still in place. Personally, I have given up trying to keep track of "how ClickBank works now", as their technical meddling is so frequent and almost always unannounced and undocumented.

But, if you're curious to prove me right or wrong, why not set up your own test to discover this week's modus operandi.

    All the best,

    Tim,

Thank you for responding. I did just change my settings to block all
cookies and tried a hoplink, and I was redirected to the merchants site.
I guess I could have tried this right away to begin with. I was just
surprised when I read this article because I had never heard of this
before. I know what you mean about Clickbank constantly meddling
with things though. I wish they would quit meddling and put things back
to the way they were a couple of years ago. I kind of wish all affiliate
programs would do something like this though, block access to the site
if the visitor doesn't accept cookies, maybe more people would stop
using all of the many programs that are blocking cookies now if they
all at once didn't have access to half the sites they want to visit.

    Wayne
