Hello SuperTips readers,
Here's an Internet marketing tip you've not seen before.
It's a big DON'T.
Do not ... Don't ... let your teenager use your PC.
While I was out - well 5 seconds after I left the room - my
daughter Naomi nipped in to get onto Messenger and chat to
I returned to find a strange looking browser tool bar on the
screen and denials that it was her fault.
Soon after came a non-stop barrage of pop-up ads every few
minutes, hour after hour.
I had been invaded by ... Spyware.
I tried the usual cures Ad-Aware and Microsoft AntiSpyware -
but they couldn't help.
I scanned the Net, I posted at forums.
I spent the days wasting half my time closing browser
Then I happened to mention the problem to my close colleague
at the ClickBank Success Forum - Adrian Ling.
He was very busy writing a book.
Guess what it was about ?
I think there's a word for that ... Synchronicity.
Anyway he suggested it would be a good test of his book and
a way to get it proofread at the same time (crafty fellow
that Adrian) if I looked at his draft copy for the solution.
It was a fascinating read.
If you think you are safe from Spyware you may be sadly
For example do you always click the 'No' button when you see
an ActiveX pop-up ?
Well that could be a trick !
Along with many so called antispyware tools - which are
actually spyware in disguise.
My reading was now turning into an education as I started
learning about lots of useful features that lay hidden in my
PC - one of which could have saved me a tidy sum, I'll tell
you why in a moment.
By the way all the tools that you need to prevent or
destroy spyware can be obtained for free, as this book
shows, and it was one such tool which finally did the trick.
The popups had disappeared.
But even better.
For weeks I had the infuriating situation whereby Windows
Explorer would crash many times a day when I double clicked
Suddenly this problem had vanished too.
And that was the end of a frustrating and expensive period.
Expensive because the whole spyware episode had convinced me
it was time for Naomi to have her own computer - a laptop.
And then just after purchasing it I found the page in
Adrian's book explaining how I could easily have restricted
her access so that she could not have downloaded any
software with a spyware risk.
How's that for bad timing - an example of reverse synchronicity ?
Anyway this means that if she wants to keep her laptop
spyware-free she will now have to read the book. Fortunately
it is superbly written and easy to understand whatever your
level of experience.
And I've got an idea.
I'll pretend that Adrian said I can't give a copy to anyone.
So I'll sell it to her and get affiliate commission.
Am I a mean father ?
Well look at all the trouble she put me to.
Should I feel guilt ?
No. I've decided I'm going to email her this newsletter and
tell her to purchase "Spyware Secrets Exposed"
