OK, I am sure I am missing something here so please help...

so, Google doesn't allow direct linking to the vendor's page from PPC ad but they do allow URL masking and redirection.

Does this mean that if I have a domain with a company that offers forwarding service with url masking, I can send people from PPC straight to the vendors page and that is OK with Google?

Yes, domain forwarding is allowed but I personally don't like it.

Building your own landing pages with good content helps with your quality scores and it also enables you to tweak them to get better CPCs and ROIs etc.

Can anyone offer an explanation on why the CTR of my ads always lessens (this time from 4 to 2.5) when I switch to "focus on conversions" ?

Well that depends on which SE you are adept in optimizing for.
As I mentioned before, PPC and SEO go hand in hand, so if you are good in optimizing for Google then Adwords would be a good place to consider.

One big advantage that Adwords does have over it's competitors is that Google has a greater reach. Having dominated the PPC market for so many years, this is also an important factor to consider. But the counter argument is that Adwords is indeed more competitive.

Regardless of which one you choose, make sure you master all the necessary skills needed to gain the most out of your time and investments.

    Good luck
    Damian

    New Reports: AdWords Search Funnels

Google recently release a new set of reports for your AdWords account: AdWords Search Funnels (still in beta).

    Quote:
Currently, conversions in AdWords are attributed to the last ad someone clicks before making a conversion, masking the fact that many customers perform multiple searches before finally converting. AdWords Search Funnels help you see the full picture by giving you insight into the ads your customers interact with during their shopping process.

I'm constantly forgetting the average online marketer doesn't have any offline sales experience compared to my over 30 years of commission based sales.

Great reminder of selling techniques in that article Damian

    Sell on emotion

    Create a need
    Show a solution
Show why they should come to you

    Have something in common
"As a martial artist myself I've seen...." (the empathy the article mentioned)

Also I recall one sales school I went to state before anything is sold a prospect must first

    Trust your company
    Trust you
    Trust your product

Hope this helps new folks to sales

    Rick
