I have enrolled in a formal internet marketing course. I was told that having a newsletter or some sort of email program is essential to conversion. Does anyone have any suggestion as to which list provider to use? Or should I use my own script? Constant contacts looks ok but it is quite costly I think.

The two top services used by most marketers are:

    http://www.aweber.com/
    http://www.getresponse.com/

They are the most popular because of reliability and features provided.

    Good luck

    Hello,

If you are just starting out with a list of less than few thousand phplist is a good resource. However you will need to have your own domain with cpanel. There are many hosting companies such as hostgator that only charge $9 a month for hosting a domain and it includes phplist.

If you need help or have questions about phplist there is a phplist forum just put it into the search engine. I still use phplist for some of my list of 6000 or less. I use batch processing to get the emails out of a list of around 5,000.

Anyway this is just another option if you are just starting out and want to run your own list.

    Cheers,

    Paul

Thanks Paul65, its quite impressive that you have a 6000+ list, do you request visitors to give you their email addresses when they visit your site?

Definitely. My income has tripled right after I started creating my own list. Email list is not a matter that whether a marketer should have, it is a MUST have.

The reason why an email list is so important is so that you can sell the product to people who do not consider coming back your website again, but have opt-in to your newsletter for the freebie.

It is important that you are able to convince that person in the email so that he will return to the website and purchase the product.

Did I do something wrong here?

I presented an idea of using Yahoo groups as a newsletter format based on an article I wrote, but I can't find it
