    Hello all,

    Ok folks...

    <start rant>

    Got a nice registered letter in the mail from BBB stating I cannot even mention there name on my sites and I had to remove it immediately..

    My statement was on my FAQ page, concerning trusting our payment processor.

    I stated:

    "...clickbank.com is our third party payment processor and a proud member of the BBB so you can be sure your info is safe and secure!."

    I had to remove all mention of them, even though ClickBank IS a member. Maybe they should scour the web to see if any more people are doing this "horrific thing". This is ridiculous!

    I think Internet copyright laws are getting a bit out of hand. I can understand if I were making false statements. I was stating the whole truth and nothing but the truth!!!

    So now I can't even gain people's confidence by using the BBB name WHICH is the BBB's intention, to help people make better decisions...

    Maybe they were thinking I was using it to sell my product?? .. DUH! Of course I was!!! ClickBank is a member for a reason... to gain OUR CONFIDENCE AND OUR CUSTOMERS CONFIDENCE.

    I donno.. maybe i'll get a job with Bevarian Pretzel and say to heck with this internet stuff...

    WHOOPS!! Now i'll get an email from them requesting I delete my post "immediately to prevent any further action"

    <end rant>

    Peter

    That's a bunch of nonsense. If you want to use it in that way, I would keep doing it. I don't think there's anything they can do, unless you are trying to make it sound like YOU are a member of the BBB when you are not. But you're obviously not doing that. I can't think of a single reason or law that would prevent you from mentioning the BBB on your site in that context. Of course, you might not want to mention the BBB at all. If I was a "normal" consumer and I read that, the first thing that would pop in to my mind is hmm why aren't YOU a member of the BBB? Hmm I better look into this etc. etc. etc.

    limitup,

    I guess I never thought of it that way. I agree with you from the consumers standpoint.

    Another thing I forgot to mention is they want me to sign a form and return it. It says something to the effect of "...agree not to use their name in any way" etc.

    Also, they did mention "BBB" is a trademarked name.. they had proof that's for sure.

    I find it odd that they would complain about me using it in that context. I honestly couldn't think of a single reason as to how it was hurting their business, or how anyone could think I was implying I was a member...

    Well, anyhow, it's staying off. I have more important things to work on. I don't have time for a rally against BBB LoL

    Thanks limitup Smile Nice seeing you over here at the forum! Hope we didn't get off on the wrong foot concerning my one line post at the warrior. forum. No harm was intended, just needed to stand up for myself lol But I did see your point.

    Peter

    For those of us outside of the hallowed borders of America, the BBB is at best a vague notion and at worst completely unknown.

    And as Internet traffic and Internet business is slowly shifting away from the traditional 80% American, I would think that using the BBB name is at best simply confusing to many of the people who will land on your site.

    Reading many forum posts over the years about how the BBB has failed to help people with legitimate complaints, perhaps even Americans take an alliance with them with a pinch of salt!

    Just my non-US take on it, but it seems to me that you may be better off not mentioning them.

    Martin.

    While ClickBank cannot prevent website owners from abusing the BBB logo, we would like to address this issue. According to BBB rules, only BBB members are authorized to display the trademarked logos. For example, even though ClickBank is a member of the BBBOnline, you are not authorized to display the BBB logos when mentioning ClickBank unless you are a paid member of the BBB.

    We encourage you to comply with these rules, and to show proper regard for the BBB's trademarked intellectual property.

    Steve,

    I can understand not displaying the logo, as this would imply a site were a member. But are you saying it might be ok to use the statement I did and you will research this with BBB?

    Peter

    PS Thanks for replying..

    Peter,

    No, I am not saying it is OK. I am not a lawyer (thank goodness!) but I would advise you to strictly comply with their requests, unless you are interested in a lawsuit. I am certain they are dead serious about protecting their intellectual property.

    Steve,

    I hope you didn't misinterperet me LOL I wasn't looking for your approval.. I was just wondering if you were trying to say that you were going to address this issue with BBB.

    No I'm not interested in a lawsuit... lol
