    SUPERTIPS EZINE

    Issue 168: Oct 14, 2009
    Harvey Segal, Editor

    Hello SuperTips readers,

Here is a 10-year old supertip.

As valid as the day I first wrote it.

==> Never link directly to an affiliate site.

Always link to a page on your own site which then leads
    (redirects) to the affiliate program.

    The reasons ?

    1. On this page you can provide your own introduction to the
product or service you are promoting. This can include, for
    example:
    - additional detail not available in your posting or advert
    - your own personal experience
    - a review of the benefits

    2. You can provide links to the rest of your site in case
your visitor is not interested in that affiliate product.

    3. Your own site traffic statistics will indicate the
response to your advert in addition to any stats provided
for you by the affiliate company.

    4. You can submit the page to search engines.

    5. With the real URL visible there is a risk that the reader
removes the suffix (affiliate code) so that you do not get
    registered as the affiliate.

    6. If the affiliate operation becomes discontinued you can
inform and divert visitors at your own website, rather than
have them visit a non-existent page.

This is particularly useful when you use a link (any link
not just affiliate links) in books that are being
distributed by affiliates who have rebranded them. If the
link needs to change you just do it at your end.

Of course if the content of the book changes that's a
different problem. You have to contact all those affiliates
who rebranded your book and say

"Sorry about this. I've had to make a change to the book.
You can get the new version at [...]. Please download it,
unzip it, extract the rebranding program, run it and enter
your personal information in the rebrandable fields, check
all the links and if happy upload it back to your website.
In other words repeat the whole procedure you used when you
first rebranded the book and continue to do so every time I
    send updates"

How well do you think this will go down with those
    affiliates ?

My guess is that those old versions of your book are still
going to be floating around. And you'll be getting an
    earful.

So when I changed one of my books recently how did I fare ?

How did my affiliates respond to my request to change ?

    The answer ?

    They didn't.

Because I didn't have to ask them.

All their rebranded books were effectively changed in an
    INSTANT.

Only one rebrander can do this because all the others are
flawed in their fundamental structure as I explain here with
the tool I developed to overcome this and a whole stack of
    obstacles.

I've now used the Ultimate Rebrander for my LATEST book.

It's free, a straight download with no sign up

And whether you collect it from me or an affiliate it will
always be, of course, the latest and greatest version.

    PS.

    Your comments/suggestions about the book
    are welcome at
    http://www.supertips.com/support-helpdesk.htm

And testimonials too (with an URL for your
own site, not an affiliate link please).

    Thanks
    Harvey

    Dear Harvey,
With regards to your advice on not using affiliate link directly, does this rule apply to USFreeads? I don't have a webpage of my own.
My intention is this: write article(s) > link article(s) to USFreeads > Put CB affiliate link inside USFreeads (will cloak the CB Affiliate link too) > merchant page
    Is this method 'safe' enough?

Question: where will you place these articles
and will a link to an ad be allowed ?

I used to post articles at Ezinearticles and Goarticles. Links are allowed in the resource box(subject to certain guidelines)

Well if you are happy that
    - the links are allowed
    - your ads will not expire
    - the affiliate program won't be disbanded

and given the fact that you don't have a site
    then it should be 'safe'

I actually redirect the order form as well for tracking purposes, but yes once you link to outside your own site you lose control of where people go
